Así means like this — it describes the way something is done. Remember it as the English word as0 with a little kick at the end (1), like pointing at something and saying "just as this!"
así
like this, like that, this way, that way
Points at a way of doing something, either showing it in the moment or referring to something just described.
Dobla el papel así = Fold the paper like this
No me gusta que me hables así = I don't like you talking to me that way
así que
so, therefore (consequence)
Comparison puts two things together — and when two things consistently go together, one starts to feel like the cause of the other.
Corrió así que llegó primero = He ran in such a way that he arrived first --> He ran so that he arrived first
Se me olvidó el paraguas, así que me mojé = I forgot my umbrella, so I got soaked
así como
just as, in the same way that (comparison)
"Como" alone compares two things. Adding "así" points at the manner and says "in this exact way" — making the parallel more emphatic and precise.
Así como el maestro enseña, el alumno aprende = Just as the teacher teaches, the student learns
as well as, along with (addition)
Comparison puts two things together — and when things reliably go together, mentioning one brings the other along. English "as well as" shows the same shift: from comparison ("he sings as well as she does") to simple addition ("he sings as well as dances"), where the comparison fades and only the pairing remains.
Vinieron los padres, los hermanos, así como los amigos más cercanos = The parents came, the siblings, as well as the closest friends
así así
so-so, just okay
Así points to a way of doing something without naming it ("like this"). Because it's vague, you can repeat it: así así sounds like pointing one way, then another, without settling. English so works the same way (do it "so" = do it "like this"), and so-so likewise means "just okay," the sense you get when no single way is clearly picked.
¿Cómo estuvo la película? — Así así, no me emocionó mucho = How was the movie? — So-so, it didn't really excite me
Me siento así así hoy, no estoy bien del todo = I'm feeling just okay today, not completely well
